Old World Archaeology        

North African and European material, with some Asian material. Focus is on material from excavation of a “Caspian Neolithic” freshwater shell midden in North Africa and European material ranging from the Middle Paleolithic to the medieval period. The primary artifact types are lithics, animal bones, worked bone, and bronze.

New World Pottery 

New World pottery, mainly Latin American and Southwestern

Primate Osteology            

Cranial and post-cranial material mainly from Uganda, Congo, and South America. Includes the NC Tappen collection.

Mammalian Osteology

Collection of North American, African, and Eurasian mammals for reference and identification, from a combination of road kill and zoo deaths as well as other sources. 

Human Evolution Casts   

Extensive teaching collection of casts related to hominoid and hominin evolution.

Archaeology Teaching   

Ceramics, lithics, metal artifacts, and archaeological animal bone reserved for teaching and reference in archaeology.

Taphonomy

Skeletal material affected by diverse natural and cultural processes.  Includes the Glynn Isaac East Turkana field collection, material from hunter-gatherer ethnoarchaeology in the Congo, and experimental collections.

The EAL does not loan collections.
Non-destructive research proposals will be reviewed by the laboratory directors.
